Esam Caen/Cherbourg, initially named “Ecole des Beaux-arts”, was founded in Caen in 1795, and has developed over the years into its present form : a public establishment for cultural coope­ration placed under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the Urban Commu­nity of Caen, the City of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin and the Normandy Regional Council.

Esam Caen/Cherbourg provides exceptional study and research conditions for all its students, both in terms of work space and resources :

  • a silkscreen printing workshop ;
  • an intaglio, relief and aquatint printing workshop ;
  • a lithography workshop ;
  • a printing shop offering wood and lead typo­graphy, letterpress and digital printing ;
  • a specialist workshop offering all types of moulding techniques ;
  • a ceramics, porcelain and earthenware workshop ;
  • a resin and plastics workshop ;
  • a woodshop ;
  • a film-processing laboratory ;
  • two photography darkrooms (black and white, and colour) – one in large format ;
  • a photography studio ;
  • a digital photography workshop ;
  • a dust-free painting booth ;
  • video equipment with a device for superim­position ;
  • video editing booths ;
  • a textile, paper and sewing workshop ;
  • two sound studios, and sound-editing booths ;
  • IT rooms for lessons, digital workshops in typography, page setting, multimedia, ani­mation and virtual 3D.
